Makeup

There are so many unnecessary toxins in makeup, including heavy metals! Ideally, makeup should be reserved for special events, but if you wear makeup daily, then this topic is even more important for you! Anything we are subjecting our bodies to on a daily basis, should rate higher on the list of priorities, because many chemicals bioaccumulate in our organs and strain our liver and kidneys.

When children play with makeup, they are slathering whatever is in your makeup all over the largest organ of their bodies. When your little girl starts wearing makeup, don’t you want her makeup to be the healthiest it can be? Even the healthiest makeup collections still contain some questionable ingredients, meaning no makeup is 100% safe, but it can be MUCH safer than the commercial brands that are using chemical ingredients rather than natural ones.

Makeup must also be considered when going gluten and dairy free as well.

Did you know that even some of the best mineral makeups contain ingredients like heavy metals and gluten? It’s important to read the ingredients thoroughly and understand each and every one of them. I am incredibly selective with my makeup and I look for brands with the shortest list of healthy ingredients.

Rejuva Minerals

Rejuva is my go-to makeup of choice. I’ve been pleased with everything I’ve purchased from them. They really take safety to the extreme. Their product ingredients are EWG Verified, have the Made Safe seal and rated “clean” on the Think Dirty app. Their makeup is mica free and titanium dioxide free, and uses natural and organic ingredients. Their entire mineral makeup line is also talc free, paraben free and bismuth oxychloride free. They also never test their products on animals.

Until I found Rejuva, I’ve never quite liked any of the mascaras I’d tried. Jet black mascara is one of my staples and it must be high quality. Rejuva delivers!

Larenim Minerals

Another one of my staple makeup brands is Larenim. Notice the name is actually “mineral” backwards? I love that. They don’t hold the extent of safety designations that Rejuva has, but they are a decent selection by comparison to the makeup out there. So many brands are touted as healthy, when they aren’t. You should know that Larenim uses mica in their makeup though. I use more Rejuva products, but there are a few things I just prefer about Larenim.

I don’t wear it often, but I tend to reach for the Larenim foundation over Rejuva, because I like their colors better and I prefer a loose foundation over pressed. Their eye shadows are loose as well, and I prefer pressed eye shadow, so I prefer Rejuva for my eye shadows. I’m a huge fan of Larenim’s Angel’s blush which is a shimmering pink glow that looks great as a cheekbone highlighter. I often prefer this over a deeper blush and I especially love it in the summer over that sun kissed look.

The truth is, you just have to try these brands and compare them, to find the one that fits you best.

Pure HAven

They don’t have a wide selection of makeup, but what they do have is very clean, although some products contain mica. They carry lip glosses, cheek sticks, tinted moisturizers, eyeliner and mascara. And yes, their mascara does meet my standards! 😉

They carry a lot of other nice products too so poke around on their website!

Cleure

I just want to preface this link with the fact that I don’t love their ingredients. I think most people can find low salicylate powdered makeup at the above two links, but if there is a reason you are looking for a liquid foundation or you want to compare the ingredients of a lipstick or lipgloss, this would be the ultimate low salicylate store, so I am including it. I have not used any of their makeup products and from the looks of their ingredients, I probably wouldn’t use most of them. Check it out though, just be sure to read ingredients and research the ones you don’t recognize (and there are a lot of them, unfortunately).
